A potent, expertly crafted Single Grain Irish Whiskey from Glendalough Distillery in Ireland, made with corn and malted barley. It was aged for 3 1/2 years in ex-bourbon barrels, then for 6 months in Oloroso Sherry casks, and finally finished in Madeira casks, totaling 4 years. It has an aromatic beginning with hints of rancio, sultana, granola, toffee, and pear; while its rich development adds notes of raisin, bran, oatmeal, and freshly cut oak; leading to a wine-like finish of medium duration. Green apple, fruity, less dried fruit notes than the double. The madeira cask is nicely mellowing this whiskey. It has much more noticeable tannins, with a good sharpness. The bourbon wood influence is still prominent.
Delicious spirit, with a strong raisin profile complemented by subtle, pleasant oak notes.
Oats, brown sugar, and dried fruit notes. Incredibly mellow finish.
