Glencoe 10 Year

Aroma: Sweet vanilla, orange blossom, and honey puffs. Adding a bit of water enhances the honey notes. Palate: White pepper appears upon entry, quickly transitioning to a dry, almost astringent profile with young oak tannins as it develops. Hot ginger is noticeable during progression. The texture isn't exceptional. A dash of water softens and integrates the pepper and ginger, making them more appealing and intriguing. Finish: Brief. The palate rushes into the finish, with tannins being the final flavor. Water has minimal impact. A rather unremarkable blended malt of little interest. Its profile is simple and not very appealing when consumed neat. Water improves it, but not enough to recommend purchasing. MacDonald's Glencoe was a well-known blend historically, available with 8 and 12-year age statements. Ben Nevis (owned by Nikka) later acquired the brand and continued its production for a period, but there was a production halt, and the connection of this current 10-year-old blend to the original is unclear. Reportedly, this contains whiskies sourced from Speyside, and it's uncertain if it includes any Ben Nevis spirit. If it's solely a Speyside blend, the reason for Ben Nevis's involvement is puzzling, and if it's a mix of Ben Nevis and Speyside whiskies, the rationale remains equally perplexing.
