Glen Moray Elgin Heritage 18 Year

I experienced this 18-year-old Speyside single malt scotch at 47.2% ABV, and again with a bit of water, in the evening. It's non-chill filtered and has artificial color. This has been a beneficial learning experience for me regarding aging scotch in American oak. Lemon, vanilla, and banana aromas are also present on the palate. However, the wood's influence is intense on the tongue with the first sip, contradicting the gentle and subtle smell. The palate is fiery with spice and alcohol. Beneath that, you'll perceive creamy toffee and some sweet, lingering floral notes. A drop of water helps to distinguish the flavors nicely. The finish is lengthy, light, and ever so slightly sweet. I enjoy it!

Vanilla and dry oak on the aroma. It's quite light, with a touch of sweetness providing just enough body to be pleasant and mask the alcohol burn. The finish is a bit brief, featuring some clove spice. It's good, but I prefer a bolder character from an 18-year expression.

Berry sweetness on the nose, with strawberry being the primary flavor on the palate. Excellent wood undertones, but the sweet berry is the highlight. It has good richness for its age, is well-balanced, and tasty, but not exceptionally memorable.

Nose: Yeast, toasted barley. Palate: Very honeyed and floral, with wood spices on the back of the palate. Body and finish: Full and heavy, with a long finish - the alcohol content truly does this whisky justice.

Tasted at the whisky extravaganza. Great stuff. Fruity, spicy, woody, and has notes of caramel. Very balanced.
