Glen Moray Port Cask Finish 25 Year

** Note: This is a brief review – I won’t have my standard detailed notes. The reason is this sample was served at Whiskyfest DC on 4/17/18. All of these reviews will not have scores, and I hope to try them again later for a more thorough evaluation. This was a top priority for the VIP hour, and I'm pleased I visited this booth. It was a good drink, even though the representative pushed the 15-year-old version. He eventually poured the 25-year-old, and we left quickly before he became more insistent. They were located near my preferred Irish whiskey, West Cork, and I intended to sample all their offerings, but the representative's persistent presence made me uneasy, so I departed. I missed tasting a few West Cork expressions due to that off-putting individual. I felt like that comedian who nervously adjusted his collar when startled or uneasy, haha.

Review #12 of 12 from DC Whiskyfest 2018. My participation was limited to 12 samples due to feeling unwell that afternoon, impacting both my head and stomach. I should have rested at the hotel but I wasn't going to waste $350 VIP tickets just to sleep! No scores were assigned as I felt it wouldn't be fair under the circumstances. The nose offered sweetness and softness with subtle port notes, alongside malt, honey, blackberries, and raspberries. The palate was spicy, hotter than anticipated, with notes of pepper and oak, leading to a rather dry finish. This marked the end of my evening. I had to stop attending the event after 2 hours and return to my hotel room. I requested half portions of samples compared to others. Most I only nosed, tasting and spitting out. I swallowed no more than 5, and only the truly exceptional ones. Still, I was glad to have sampled that many given my condition. Cheers

This is likely an incredible value. Finding an exceptional 25-year-old single malt at this price point is rare. It has undergone finishing in Porto Cruz port pipes from Portugal and displays a deep amber color. It's remarkably smooth at 43% ABV, making the addition of water seem unnecessary. The port influence is evident on the nose, followed by a sweet burst on the palate that transitions smoothly into a dry port finish. I've observed that oxidation can enhance the dryness of a port finish. It will be interesting to see how it evolves over time.

The aroma presents port and fruit. The palate is mellow with a slight sharpness and warmth toward the center. It's sweet. The finish is of medium length. Adding water boosts the intensity on the tip of the tongue and the palate. Tasted at Glen Moray Distillery on 7/22/2016

Sampled at a tasting event. Sweet, spicy, rich, and smooth. I like it. Most of the sweetness and port character is in the pleasant, long finish. I'll have this once as it's pricey and a limited edition, but I'm glad I had the chance to sample it.

Tasted at a whisky event. Excellent quality. Sweet and spicy, similar to its 18-year-old counterpart, with an added layer of chocolate and berries.
