Aroma: Old oak, leather, and full-bodied fortified wine. Lemon zest and barley sugar are present, with both light and dark characteristics. Water adds structure and body. Palate: A spicy and semi-sweet start with significant wine influence. Raisins and walnuts develop, gradually becoming sweeter. Leafy and earthy with some tobacco. The texture is acceptable. Dilution brings a welcome balancing sweetness. Finish: Medium, with leather, tobacco, and slightly bitter citrus. Dilution sweetens and lengthens the finish. This Madeira cask finished Glen Moray 21 is exclusive to the Chinese market but available at the distillery. It's good but not exceptional; a solid whisky that improves notably with a bit of water. Neat, it was a 3.5-star rating at best, but with water, it approached 4 stars, though fell short. Tasted at the distillery. Rated 'Good': 84/100 (3.75 stars).
