Glen Garioch 1999 Red Wine Matured, 19yo

Oh, this is a fantastic dram. Recently, I've sampled several expressions from this distillery, and they've all been excellent. This one is a 1999 vintage, 19 years old, matured in a Red Wine Cask. A true gem. Bottled at 48% ABV. Deep copper color. On the nose, wine, raisins, cherries, cinnamon, chocolate-covered raisins, and coconut. AMAZING. On the palate, another perfect score. Chocolate mixed with prunes and red fruits. Dulce de leche and vanilla ice cream. The aftertaste is quite different but so clean and delightful. Bitter tobacco. Red fruits. Overall, this is a superb dram. If you can find any bottle, just get it. It's perfect; my score is 100/100. Cheers!

Appearance: amber color with high viscosity. Nose: Dark fruits like raisins, plums, and dark berries, acetone, sweetness (brûlée, chocolate, toffee), waxy texture, and wet oak. Palate: A pleasant, spicy entry with oaky and fruity notes. It's full-bodied, rich, and oily, with more dark fruits (raisins, dried fruits, plums), sweetness (chocolate, toffee, burned sugar), a musty character, and licorice. Finish: Medium to long, with a sweet, fruity, and oaky aftertaste. Commentary: It took some time to fully understand this one; it's unusual but in a good way, especially the musty, creamy Glen Garioch quality that I adore. I'm a fan of Glen Garioch, this is my second bottle (I've finished the 15 YO sherry cask matured) and I'm eager to try the chapter series.

Tasted alongside glencadam 18 and springbank 18. The theme was 18 years old. A truly delightful whisky, without any extremes. It possesses the typical glen garioch character with an addition of wine/sherry notes.

A gentle start with oud and chocolate, concluding with nutmeg, ginger, and orange.
