About this bottle

Glen Deveron represents the single malt offerings from Macduff Distillery, located on Scotland's coast in the Highlands. This 30-year-old sherry-matured expression is the oldest in the Royal Burgh Collection and is available solely through Global Travel Retail. Master Blender Stephanie Macleod of John Dewar & Sons, which oversees Macduff Distillery, created it from select barrels drawn from the distillery's private reserves.

Full disclosure: Tasting this after a series of bourbons with 10-25% higher alcohol content might have been unwise for an objective assessment. Nevertheless, an average rating of 4.7 is quite excessive. It has character for a blend, more than just pleasantness, which forms its foundation. Light toffee, honey, green apple (a first for me, though reading tasting notes made me recognize it). I'm thinking 3.5 maximum, and potentially higher if conditions were different, but I have to judge it as it is. Value for money (at over $300 USD per bottle) suggests 3, but fairness due to my diminished senses suggests rounding up to 4 stars for the distillery. However, I wouldn't personally purchase or drink a whole bottle. So, to maintain balance, it remains a 3.

Initially, the aroma reveals notes of vanilla and hay. Then, upon tasting, there's a rich blend of nutmeg, cinnamon, and sherry. A hint of citrus flavor is also detectable. The finish is malty with a lingering spice. Overall, a very satisfying tasting experience!
