Giant Texas Black Label Bourbon

To begin, this does not offer a typical bourbon profile. It's possible I appreciate this more as a rum or brandy enthusiast than as a bourbon drinker. Distinguishing between those tasting approaches can be difficult for me. Additionally, I must confess, there's a subtle off-note, as if a subpar bourbon is lurking beneath, but they've managed to conceal it effectively. The aroma consists of corn and fruit, but not a conventional corn scent. The corn notes remind me of exceptionally sweet summer corn, like that enjoyed fresh off the grill, lightly charred, seasoned with a bit of salt, sugar, and butter. The aroma also carries a significant amount of vanilla, almost in a rum-like fashion. It drinks a bit young and is very corn-forward, but there's a pleasant, subtle kick right away. Notes of slight bitter char, abundant brandy-like raisin and prune, vanilla, Belgian sugar, and a hint of chardonnay meld together in a spirit with a mild burn and lower alcohol content. This doesn't astound me, but I'm surprised I don't dislike it. This isn't high praise, mind you. It's more like a 3 out of 5, compared to the 1.5 out of 5 others have given. However, there are a few aspects worth considering. It's not pure bourbon whiskey, so it might be a blend. Alternatively, it states it's aged for a minimum of 6 months, suggesting it could contain a substantial amount of very young spirit. It's hard to say.

This isn't a straight bourbon, which might explain its unusual and less polished taste. To me, it has an earthy flavor, and the nose offers oak, vanilla, and the scent of an old leather shoe. I had hoped to enjoy a Texas bourbon, but this one is challenging.

I didn't anticipate this being suitable for drinking straight. I bought it as a mixer. Being a local product motivated my purchase, as I aim to support local businesses. However, it falls short. Lacking flavor development, it tastes like a green twig.

Sweet vanilla, nutty, and oak on the nose. Nutty, oak, and somewhat bitter initially. Spicy and Smoky overall with a long, warm finish. It's decent, and I don't regret trying it, but I wouldn't go out of my way to get it again.

It's a decent whiskey, but carries a smokiness reminiscent of Mezcal.

The bourbon character is detectable, not very good.
