STRAIGHT SMELL - Freshly glazed doughnut, Vanilla, Brown Sugar, and that familiar Garrison funk (barnyard, grassy note) though it's the least noticeable it has ever been in any Garrison bourbon I’ve tried. To this point, I've had all of them except the Hye Rye. TASTE - Viscous, chewy texture. Unbelievable. This is loaded with flavor! It's packed with vanilla icing and glaze with brown sugar. I'm unsure how they achieved this flavor by just finishing a whiskey in Rye barrels. It's 7 years old (4 years in new oak and 3 years in used oak), so I'm sure the duration helped. There's also the grassy, barnyard note on the palate, but it's barely perceptible as it's just overwhelmed by all the sweet notes. FINISH - A prolonged finish of subtle, lingering rye spice dominated by sweet oak and honey. BUY? - If you're fortunate enough to find it, I wouldn't pass it up. I initially overlooked it until I heard extremely positive feedback. Thankfully, the store had one remaining. BUY AGAIN? - Honestly, I would repurchase this without hesitation. I truly hope they make this an annual release like Lady Bird and Guadalupe. I believe Garrison is really hitting their stride. I dislike how expensive they are, but damn they make some incredible bourbon!
