The rarest expression from the Hye, Texas distillery to date, Laguna Madre honors the coastline of Texas. This bourbon underwent a double cask-aging process: initially for four years in new white American oak and then for an additional four years in French Limousin oak. The 2021 bottling is restricted to 2,000 bottles, with 500 made available at the distillery via a drive-thru event on May 8th on a first-come, first-served basis, followed by distribution across the U.S. It has a proof of 101 (50.5% ABV).

Nose: Sweet, with hints of cinnamon, reminiscent of cinnamon brown sugar on toast. Abundant vanilla! Palate: A pleasant sweetness introduces strong notes of vanilla and a pleasing creaminess. Finish: The creaminess persists, now evoking heavy cream topped with cinnamon, like a warm cup of hot chocolate. An oddly specific comparison, I know.
Let's just say I'm fortunate a friend offered me a sample of this because I would have been quite upset spending $300 on this subpar bourbon. It tastes like most of GB’s products but with even more oak and a very drying finish that I often find with many Texas Bourbons. Unfortunately, this is merely another overpriced release from GB…
Pleasant sweet vanilla aroma. A bit of spice but smooth. Less sweet on the palate than the nose suggested, with significant oak and leather notes in the aftertaste. Very good, but not outstanding.
Notes of raisins, cream, vanilla, oak, and baking spice.
I also really like this one.
