TASTED NEAT AROMA - Reminiscent of Peach Cobbler topped with dark brown sugar and maple syrup. The typical hay/barnyard scent is also present but much fainter, taking a backseat to the sweeter aromas. T ASTE - The texture is oily and thick. It starts very sweet, with abundant fruit, brown sugar, and maple syrup. Hints of vanilla are also noticeable. The taste is smooth and easy to drink, with a very pleasant, sweet oak presence. No tannic sensations detected. FINISH - The characteristic barnyard/hay aroma from this distillery emerges on the finish but is quickly overtaken by notes of honey, brown sugar, and sweet oak. The finish is of medium length; I would prefer it to be longer. SHOULD YOU BUY IT? - The price makes recommending Garrison products like this challenging. It offers a truly unique experience, but I don't feel it justifies the cost. However, given its limited availability and being their oldest offering, it's worth considering if you are a fan of Garrison Brothers. For a more affordable option with higher proof and similar complexity, consider Cowboy. In my view, this offers more elegance and refinement than Cowboy. Cowboy drinks so easily for its proof that I might need to compare it blind against the two Cowboy expressions I have. Ultimately, this is a very costly bourbon, but Garrison enthusiasts likely won't regret the purchase. WOULD YOU BUY IT AGAIN? - Perhaps a future vintage.

About this bottle
Garrison Brothers' Laguna Madre, the 2024 release, is the distillery's oldest and most exclusive Texas straight bourbon, aged for eight years. It spends its first four years in white American oak, followed by four years in French Limousin oak. Named for the coastal waters of Texas, 3,000 bottles were produced for this year's release. The initial 1,000 bottles were distributed at the distillery release event in Hye, Texas, on July 20, 2024, with the remainder available at select bars, restaurants, and retailers starting in August 2024, priced at $349.

I typically enjoy Garrison Brothers, but I regret this purchase. It's bitter, excessively oaked, tannic, and lacks the signature honeyed sweetness I expect from this brand.
Awesome aroma and very mellow as it's consumed. Excellent ending and delicious!
