Occasionally, a drink appears that rekindles your initial passion for bourbon. The 2025 Garrison Brothers Cowboy Bourbon achieves this. It's not for light enjoyment; it's a powerful Texas contender that enters with undeniable presence. I secured this bottle from Nestors at the suggested retail price plus a holiday reduction! Upon smelling, you immediately encounter rich, dark, and viscous molasses, establishing a strong foundation. Oak then emerges, not harsh, but mature and assured, reminiscent of aged timber with character. The taste is where this spirit truly shines. Layers of chocolate and caramel are prominent and comforting, resembling a dessert without excessive sweetness. The characteristic Cowboy warmth is present but manifests as a measured spice rather than an aggressive burn, signaling its high proof while encouraging further tasting. The aftertaste persists, with molasses and oak remaining as the spice gradually recedes. It's a conclusion that prompts reflection and admiration for the skill involved. In summary: An excellent drink. Strong, decadent, and distinctly Texan. Garrison Brothers crafted this perfectly.
