About this bottle

Made from 90% rye and 10% malted barley, Fremont Mischief Whiskey is pot distilled within Seattle's Fremont neighborhood. It then rests for 8 years in medium-toasted, previously used bourbon barrels. The use of non-new barrels prevents it from being labeled as a rye whiskey.

Renae Herring 3.0

It's refreshing to try something unique and genuinely down-to-earth sometimes. Even with cutesy terms like "bespoke barrels" and "rare earth" on its packaging, the Straight Rye Whiskey from Fremont Mischief Distillery is assertive, strong, and rather enjoyable. This spirit arrives with a bit of flair (folks start sizing it up), then it causes a stir, throws in some showy moves, perhaps even delivers a surprise blow (minds are blown), before spinning and departing slowly as onlookers are stunned. Indeed, its style won't suit all tastes and some might object to its behavior, but it certainly puts on a performance and makes no secret of its intensely rye character. Aromas of rye bread, uncooked dough, hints of vanilla, and buttered popcorn. The taste delivers a punch of yeast, spice, black pepper, and toasted oak. The conclusion is somewhat fleeting but offers a welcome warmth, black pepper, and a touch of baked goods.

Sheena Mills 3.5

Average quality with a spicy finish. Nothing particularly stands out, but there's very little burn. It's enjoyable and lighter than most ryes I've encountered.

Joaquin Shelby 4.0

Despite adding water, I was pleased with this. It has a rum-like quality, though it's hard to discern the full profile without dilution.

Bailey Mcdonald 3.0

A dark spirit from the north. It has a spicy scent, a sweet caramel taste with a mild follow-up, and a slight burning sensation upon swallowing.

Emiliano Camarillo 2.0

It's acceptable. Sweet honey flavor. Requires a significant amount of water to mellow out. Very constricted.

Xander Gray 3.0

Better than mediocre, but just satisfactory. Not compelling enough for a repeat purchase.
