Frank August case study 04 4x oaked

Batch No. 5/6, Bottle No. 185/9961. Color: Medium-light Copper/Amber. The nose is somewhat light, featuring maple, leather, and tobacco. Drank neat (first pour). Smoky, spicy, slightly sweet, with a mild chest warmth. A "mint" or "menthol" sensation appears on the mid-palate. This is a blend of double oaked bourbon and double oaked rye, hence the "X 4 oaked" designation, so there's a significant oak presence. It's quite complex yet very balanced. A second glass with an ice cube revealed pleasant butterscotch notes. The finish is medium with holiday spices and a cooling mint. Final Thoughts: This was a Christmas gift. I'd seen Frank August Small Batch on shelves for months but never considered it, unwilling to risk $85 on an unfamiliar distillery. However, Frank August has earned my respect, and the price my wife paid for this limited release is somewhat justified. In my opinion, it's comparable to Blanton's and other similarly acclaimed bottles. 4.25 stars.
