Lacy Hare 3.3

The aroma brings to mind butterscotch mingled with red fruits such as cherry and blackberry. The taste is adequately mellow, presenting some flavors without a lot of harshness, and surprisingly not overly sweet. There's abundant caramel and butterscotch, but it also dries out with hints of earth and smoke. It leans a bit towards the weak and sweet spectrum, though not excessively. It's woody but not aggressively tannic. Prominent vanilla notes also emerge. It bears some resemblance to Delord 25, though it falls slightly short. Nevertheless, it's a satisfactory sipper. Blackberry and a light cherry do make an appearance. It doesn't strongly present as a rum, although there's a trace of firework alongside the butterscotch. The general woodiness is somewhat drying, but not to an extreme. In summary, it's well-balanced and a decent sipper, but lacks any standout flavors for greatness and has a few rough edges. Some subtle, sweet nuttiness surfaces and thankfully isn't overly bitter. Cocoa is present, explaining the slight firework sensation that does appear somewhat. The spices include pepper and a touch of clove, with minimal cinnamon. It possesses reasonable richness and indulgence, but is somewhat weak and not particularly remarkable. Some mild, sweet nuttiness does come out and thankfully isn't very bitter. There is some cocoa in here that explains the bit of firework flavor that does appear somewhat. The spices don't include much cinnamon, but do include pepper and a little clove. It's reasonably rich and hedonistic, but is kind of weak and isn't terribly special.

Magnolia Manley 5.0

After a 20-minute rest to let the initial alcohol dissipate, the taste is sweet but not overly so. It's more of a berry sweetness, perhaps from the Zin barrels? Think strawberries, raspberries, and raisins, complemented by vanilla and brown sugar. The finish is entirely oak with spice, likely from the bourbon barrels, and it's delightful. This is a delicious rum, and at 96 proof, it's perfect for sipping. I might have just found my new favorite rum!

Jewell Brannon 4.8

Aged 11 years. The aroma strongly suggests a variety of fruit notes from the Barbados Rum and the Zinfandel Cask. What a wonderful smell! The wine finish is quite harmonious with the rum! The texture is luxurious from the wine finish, and the taste mirrors the nose with a lengthy conclusion. A superb rum and exceptionally well-finished!! I rated it 94.

Imagine the 2004 or 2005 vintage (which I haven't sampled yet). Layer in some berries and cherries, and you have another outstanding Foursquare bottling.

Itzel Montiel 4.0

very pleasing, thick notes of brown sugar and butterscotch complement vibrant fruit with a spicy, woody end

Demetria Reis 3.0

Rather sharp taste for the price - it bears some resemblance to the Malecón 12yrs old.
