The aroma is bright with charred oak, floral rye spice, vanilla, buttery bread, plus hints of brown sugar, molasses, and black pepper. It comes across as very full, a mix of spice and dessert. The palate fills the mouth with charred oak and floral rye spice, as buttery vanilla follows to impart a nice smoothness. It's rich and chewy; the whole mouth fills with black pepper the more you chew. As it airs out, the pepper's intensity cools, giving way to more of the sweeter brown sugar notes. It remains spice-forward, much spicier than you'd expect from the aroma, but it is wonderfully balanced. The finish is long, chewy, and delicious, living up to the best of what Four Roses offers.
