Forty Creek Unity

Nose: Typical Canadian whisky notes of maple, vanilla, caramel, with some nutmeg and baking spice. A subtle bourbony richness, likely from the corn whisky, adds to the pleasant aroma. Palate: Creamy mouthfeel. Maple and caramel sweetness upfront, followed by a nice tingle on the sides of the tongue and back of the palate, probably from the port, plus some enjoyable rye spice. Very smooth with abundant flavor. Finish: Quite lengthy, with vanilla followed by bitter orange peel, especially noticeable on the roof of the mouth. A fantastic, well-balanced whisky!

I must start by saying I adore port and port-influenced whiskey! This offers an excellent balance between the sweetness of port and whiskey, with a chocolatey, almost dessert-like character, but a rye finish provides balance. The aroma is amazing! I prefer Glenmorangie's Quinta Ruban more (rated 4.5) and Signet (rated 5). Considering its price of $79, it's almost on par with Quinta Ruban, and at $70, Wiser's 18 significantly surpasses it, so it should be priced around $50-60, but it's unique enough to try and has an interesting backstory!

A friend just acquired a Quinta Ruban from Glenmorangie, so we conducted a blind tasting. We slightly preferred the Quinta Ruban port barrel; its finish was a bit better, it was smoother, and had a hint of peaty goodness. However, this was fresh, sweet, and balanced. Perhaps a few more years in a barrel would elevate it further! An excellent experiment!

A bit bitter and harsh. Maple is the prominent note. Toffee, dark fruits, caramel, praline, light baking spices, and oak notes are present. A spicy and warming finish.

This is a truly excellent Canadian Whiskey. I detect walnuts, and I am very fond of walnuts. Get a bottle if you can find one! You will be very pleased.

I adore this. I'm not a massive fan of Canadian whisky, but this is exceptional.
