About this bottle

Whyte & Mackay, the owners, released four marques in the summer of 2018, including this bottling, as single malts are rarely offered. This single malt was distilled on June 11, 1966, and aged for 50 years, with the final five years of maturation occurring in tawny port pipes. It is bottled at 47.9% ABV.

I haven't tasted this, but completing a 45-year-old whisky's maturation in port casks for half a decade seems suspicious. It makes me wonder if the intention was to cover up unwanted woody notes. While port cask finishing can be excellent, it seems more appropriate for younger spirits.
