Edradour 21yo Bordeaux Cask Finish

Edradour is one of my favored distilleries. I truly enjoy all their creations, and I recently discovered their peated range, The Ballechin. That said, Edradour bottles are often quite scarce and limited, and this one is no different. Therefore, I treasure every single drop from the former "smallest distillery in Scotland." This is a 21-year-old, finished in Bordeaux casks, bottled at 55.7% ABV. On the nose, it's peachy. Peach syrup; a peach spice. There's an ashy spiciness present. It's quite alcoholic for a 21-year-old. After the first sip, it became much more peachy but not much else; it's not bad, though. The nose is actually quite subtle. On the palate, it significantly improves. Peaches and milk chocolate. White chocolate, and then BAM!!! a spicy punch, like black pepper and wasabi. The second sip began with butterscotch and hazelnut. A hint of white wine on the third sip, tropical, coconut. Very complex. The finish is wonderful. A nice warmth from the fortified wine, very good. Tropical fruits, but so intense that it makes you chew a bit. It's an explosion of ginger with salt, stinging the lips. Pleasant. Overall, I must be honest: I don't typically favor Bordeaux cask finishes. I believe that fact influences my conclusion for this whisky. The nose didn't impress me much, but I must admit the palate was very good, and the finish was quite an experience. It still feels somewhat unbalanced. It's not my preferred Edradour, but it's a very good whisky, earning a score of 88 out of 100.
