Edinburgh Whisky

I spotted this bottle at a convention in Edinburgh and was immediately curious about its origin and why I'd never encountered it. The bartender advised against it, predicting I wouldn't enjoy it. Naturally, this made me want to try it even more. He mentioned it might be from the Isle of Arran, a personal favorite. Bottled at 46% ABV, let's explore: Smell: PEAT! Cigarette ash, stagnant water, and gooseberries. It's like grapefruit water. Taste: Harsh and sulfuric. Vanilla and tart gooseberries. It drinks a bit thin for 46% ABV. Lingering taste: Dominated by salt, metallic/copper, and sulfur. Clearly peated. Overall, I'm unsure if this is Arran, as it's quite peaty (not their specialty) and not very tropical (their hallmark). However, even as a straightforward dram, the peaty notes are very clean, and I appreciated them. This led me to award it an 80 out of 100 for this unusual and affordably priced spirit.
