Dumbarton Rock

A new blended malt whisky is now available, brought to us by the great team at Dràm Mòr group. I know for a fact that this contains some seriously premium single malts, mostly aged in sherry casks. Now it's time to review "Dumbarton Rock", your contemporary substitute for classic blends. Bottled at 46% ABV, non-chill filtered. On the nose, it starts off quite pleasant. Christmas cake, citrus fruits, cinnamon, lemon peel, and peaches. It smells nice, but the longer it breathes, the more you can detect some of its younger characteristics. Cherries and Panettone. On the palate, I first noticed orange peel; it feels young and slightly rough but is complemented by plenty of orange citrus. A second sip brought red fruits and sugary water. The aftertaste is full of various spices. Clove, pepper, and salt. Faint hay. A rather short finish. Overall, this was a pretty decent dram, strong enough to be enjoyed neat or as a base for a fancy whisky cocktail. I liked it, but I believe this will be further refined over the coming years. A nice initial effort, my rating for this is 80 out of 100.
