A big shout-out to my boss for this sample. Appearance: Deep amber with hints of burnt orange, see-through, with standard lacing. Smell: Unbelievably, there's grape on the nose, then more barrel and spice. It's very fragrant, and I like it. Taste: Starts fruity, then mild wood, followed by lots of cinnamon spice. Aftertaste: A little warmth, but it's quite smooth and pleasant. Plenty of taste on the way down, cinnamon and oak. Conclusion: A remarkable bottle, but I don't see how the price is defensible. Would I desire to own it? Definitely.

About this bottle
Buffalo Trace introduced the Double Eagle Very Rare Bourbon in early February 2019. This Kentucky straight bourbon's name reflects its 20-year maturation period, double the aging of the standard Eagle Rare Bourbon. The limited edition features a crystal decanter with two eagles and a silver presentation box. The box has dual sliding doors that activate lights above and below the bottle to illuminate the eagle. With a bottling strength of 90 proof, only 299 bottles were produced. The subsequent release is anticipated in spring 2020.

I'm unable to award this 10 stars. It's the finest bourbon I've ever tasted.
From the 2023 bottling. Pleasant and smooth, quite enjoyable.
