Some combinations just don't work well. Perhaps rum and coconut fall into that category for me. Flavors like coconut and banana can easily be mishandled. Too much can overwhelm everything else, while too little makes them barely noticeable. This rum starts intensely with coconut before venturing into unexpected territory. Sour, bitter, and sweet flavors clash in my mouth, each vying for attention. The other familiar rum notes are completely overpowered and lost in this coconut-dominated flavor tsunami. With each sip, the conflict intensifies, to the point where my taste buds cry out in pain, begging for it to stop. Maybe this rum isn't meant to be enjoyed neat. Maybe it's intended for cocktails. Perhaps the issue lies with me. Whatever the reason, I find this undrinkable.
