Dancing Goat 6 Year Limousin Rye Cask Strength

Part of a Dancing Goat Distillery virtual tasting; received a complimentary 2 oz sample. 117 proof Nose: Toasted rye bread, toffee, coffee cake, pumpkin spice, clove, allspice, light mint, cocoa, medium oak, and medium ethanol. Palate: Viscous and oily, with toffee, pumpkin muffin, rich oak, brisket crust, chocolate-covered cherries, and a noticeable rye or ethanol bite. The finish is medium-long, featuring hot rye spices, black pepper, cocoa, toffee, rye bread, and a medium ethanol kick. This expression is a definite success and a significant improvement over the standard 6Y rye. For an additional $25, it's an obvious upgrade if you come across it, offering a unique taste profile compared to many ryes in its price bracket.

As a rye enthusiast, I generally avoid whiskies that have undergone finishing or solera cask treatments, and sadly, this one fits that pattern. This bottle will need to be relegated to cocktail duty.

Nose: Primarily floral with notes of spearmint and citrus. Taste: Minty sweetness, honey, and citrus. Pleasant texture. Finish: Sweet and delicate, with the expected rye spice finally emerging.

Aroma of citrus, velvety and rich, hints of caramel, not strongly dill-like yet possesses some anise. Tastes of licorice with a moderately long finish.

Noticeably more potent than the 6yr. Limosine Rye. My top pick from today's Dancing Goat sample tasting.

While I can't score it as highly as some, it's surprisingly decent, especially considering its origin in Wisconsin...😸
