Donna Barney 4.5

Nose: unmistakably sherry-matured, notes of dark fruit, brown sugar, a touch of marzipan. Despite the strength, only a faint alcoholic bite is detected. Hints of vegetation and wood. Body: exceptionally viscous, with spice, cinnamon, and heat. It coats the mouth and possesses significant tannin. Palate: astonishingly intense sherry presence, a stark contrast to a previous experience with Daftmill. Remarkably harmonious, the alcohol is not dominant. Profoundly rich, featuring cinnamon, dark chocolate, and suggestions of prune or date. Resembles Dundee cake, with a subtle nuttiness. Finish: lingering and mouth-filling, with woody character and a hint of char, though decidedly not smoky. A superb conclusion. This was a total surprise and ranks alongside Amrut PX or Aberlour A’bunadh. Truly enjoyable.

This 2009 Summer Edition is very delicate, with hints of clover or orange blossom honey. It does not hold up well when diluted with water.
