Daftmill 2008 Winter Batch Release

Nose - Creamy/floral vanilla, buttery caramel, pears poached in white wine, French toast custard, vanilla custard. Taste - Green apples, creamy caramel, mild spice, light minty cream, slight apple stem bitterness, an unusual heat/bite for its proof. Finish - Lingering fresh green apples, more general warm spice/heat, fruity apple stem bitterness. Score - 83/100. Final Thoughts - As my initial experience with Daftmill, it was decent, but I believe the nose was its strongest aspect. It felt surprisingly hot for 46% ABV, and the latter part of the palate was dominated by fruity bitterness for me. The nose is absolutely outstanding with this wonderful fruity / buttery / custardy profile. The initial taste is also excellent with this pleasant custardy green apple character, but after letting it sit for a bit, it feels a bit hot for the low proof, leading to this fruit stem/seed bitterness. I typically don't mind this, but it was somewhat distracting here. Would I drink it if offered? - Yes. Would I specifically order it? - No. Would I buy a bottle? - No. NOTE - All reviews are conducted without considering price.
