I'm generally not a fan of the standard Cruzan Rums, though their special releases have occasionally surprised me. This one, however, is not a pleasant surprise. I was curious about the mix of 30% 20-year-old, 22% 16-year-old, and 48% 13-year-old rums. Unfortunately, it was underwhelming. It tastes like artificial flavoring was added. Considering some of their other aged rums, I anticipated a good find, but ended up disappointed. It enters smoothly with some pleasant initial flavors on the palate, but quickly shifts to a harsh, chemical/medicinal finish. As of now, it's not terrible, but it's not worth the $40 price tag. This is based on just a two-ounce pour from the neck. I'll try it again after it has had a week to breathe.
