Crown Royal Texas Mesquite

I'm in Denver at my usual spot; the bartender knows my face. I popped in for a chat and saw this bottle. I asked for a taste, and she immediately said, “Are you sure? Okay… I won’t charge you for it… gotta keep you coming back.” That was my first sign. I really enjoy Crown Royal Northern Harvest rye and their Cornerstone release. I was expecting something comparable. It’s like Lagavulin or Ardbeg – there’s no such thing as a bad one, just ones that aren’t as good as others, but still great. Not this. Seriously, steer clear. Two sips and I was done. It's just awful, a mix of terrible tequila and terrible bourbon. Some people think I'm too critical, but this 1 Star rating is quite charitable. Even someone usually easygoing would rate this poorly. Crown Royal: perhaps you could sell this to a pharmaceutical company for sanitizing wipes.

A fantastic way to spoil a decent Canadian whiskey. This is quite awful. I had hoped it was crafted similarly to peated Scotch, where the grains are dried and imparted with flavor from burning peat, or in this case, Texas mesquite. Instead, the moment you open the bottle, your senses are overwhelmed by what smells like a charcoal barbeque. While there's nothing inherently wrong with barbeque, this tastes like liquid smoke. It seems they simply added a liquid smoke extract to their whiskey, which completely ruins this otherwise pleasant blended Canadian whiskey. I wish I could have received my money back. Instead, I just poured it out. If you desire smoke and whiskey, I would suggest looking for Jura Superstition, if available, or another lightly peated Scotch like Bowmore or Highland Park 12.

A friend purchased this because it was from Texas. To quote a famous politician, "Errors were committed." This spirit, assuming it qualifies as whiskey, offers flavors reminiscent of crushed rejected barbecue-flavored chips mixed with isopropyl alcohol, extinguished cigarettes, and cheese dip. It is awful.

This is the one. This is the bottle that makes up for every mistake I have ever made, and ever will make. This whiskey is terrible, a huge miss by Crown. I'm giving it one star because I don't think zero stars are possible.

If you enjoy the taste of timber, this one's for you... This was a present, and suffice it to say, I do not care for it straight, on ice, or with anything else. I did, however, find a use for it in a homemade BBQ sauce for ribs and chicken.

This product is completely uninspired. It delivers the expected one-note caramel/vanilla sweetness from its category, along with some unconvincing mesquite smoke. It's poor quality, but I still find myself enjoying it. I'm unintelligent.
