At 14.9% ABV and under $5, this isn't just Crafthouse's strongest RTD, it also outdoes its most affordable competitors like Monaco Cocktails, a budget brand known for its two-shot (roughly 9% ABV) canned drinks. Monaco typically costs around $3.50, so for a little extra, you can get a far more delicious RTD with nearly 6% more alcohol. Seriously, think about that. This offers the best value anywhere, considering both flavor and potency. How incredible is that? Now, let's discuss the actual experience. The scent is pleasing and reflects all the advertised components. It strongly carries the aroma of lemon juice and honey, with no hint of alcohol despite the high proof. Digging deeper reveals the scent of the bourbon. Yes, you can actually discern it's made with bourbon, which is quite impressive given how subtle it is. Completing the aroma is a hard-to-place bitter note. And as expected, it contains aromatic bitters. Fantastic. The Gold Rush cocktail can be seen as a modern American take on the Whiskey Sour. Its ingredients are indeed quite similar, differing mainly in the use of bourbon instead of rye, honey in place of sugar, and typically no egg whites, as the thicker honey provides a well-rounded mouthfeel. If you were to taste this without prior knowledge of a Gold Rush's profile, you'd immediately think it was a sweeter version of a Whiskey Sour. The honey effectively delivers a distinct sweetness that perfectly balances the sharp tartness from the lemon. The bitters emerge at mid-palate, adding significant complexity to the finish.
