Crabbie's Yardhead Single Malt

Nose: A fresh, grain-based cookie/cereal scent with touches of fruit (mostly apple, a little lemon), some vanilla, and a hint of mint. It's clean and faultless, though not particularly complex. A very faint rubbery aroma appears briefly upon pouring but vanishes quickly. Palate: The initial taste is grain-forward, much like the nose, and primarily cereal/malty. Fruit notes are present and become sweeter as the drink develops. The mouthfeel is standard, with a good equilibrium between mild sweetness and faint spice. Finish: Medium/short. The end reveals some richer, buttery characteristics and rounder fruit flavors than initially tasted, but it's brief. The lingering taste is slightly sweet with a hint of apple juice. This is a revived whisky brand. The company was acquired in 2007 by another spirits producer that also owns a gin brand. They operated a pilot distillery in late 2018, the first in that city's area in 93 years, and a larger facility is currently being built. While the company has launched several whiskies, all are currently sourced and the original distilleries are undisclosed. For this particular bottling, named after the company's original location, I suspect it originates from Speyside. The profile seems familiar, possibly Glenfarclas, but it could also be from many other places. This whisky is perfectly acceptable as an everyday drinker or for extended consumption, and it blends well. It holds its own against similar introductory malts and offers good value for the cost. I decided to try this while it was on sale for £18. It performs as expected and mixes well with cola. I'm surprised I'm mixing a malt with cola, but that's its purpose. On its own, over ice, it tastes young and lacks its own distinct flavor. Sadly, this is my first Crabbes malt, and it has put me off buying another from them.

A lot of malt at the start, a medium amount of alcohol warmth, a bit of caramel as expected. It's good but has too much burn and not enough flavor.

Rich and slightly too sweet. It's easy to drink and could work in cocktails, but it's not my top choice on its own.

First single malt I bought. Tasty, slightly peppery, deep aroma.
