Crabbie 8 Year Highland Single Malt

A strong introduction to a brand that has been revived. Aroma: Subtle smoke. Caramel, traditional Highland herbs, nutmeg, and some spice. Appropriate aroma for 8 years old and relatively smooth for unfiltered 46% ABV. Overall, pleasing and inviting. Flavor: Smoky notes quickly give way to the classic Highland profile. Rich caramel, but not excessive. A smooth transition to herbal and spicy notes. Well-balanced. Nothing particularly stands out, but it's a very good drink. Tastes like a blend of ex-bourbon, charred, and possibly some sherry casks. It's also surprisingly smooth for unfiltered 46% ABV. Finish: Slightly short, but still very pleasant and easy to drink. Just right for its age. However, the finish isn't long enough when considering the unfiltered 46% ABV. This is likely the smoothest 46% ABV I have ever experienced. I would not even consider adding water to this drink. Final thoughts: It's rumored this is either a Macallan or a Glenfarclas. This spirit is a solid introduction to a brand recently brought back by Halewood. It will be interesting to see what they eventually create at their new distillery in Leith.

Grating Sweet red berries, quite delicate, with strawberry and floral notes; gentle and airy. 3 Hollow, with bitterness, a thick oily texture, rough oakiness, dryness, and high intensity. 0 Oakiness. 0 0.25 Sweet berries, sugary, with medium-high intensity. Pear. Orange. 1.5 Spicy heat, bitterness, cinnamon heat. 1 Oak. 1 1

Potent butterscotch on the nose. A clean, smooth warmth on the palate. Very much like a strong Speyside. This was a favorite.

Smells like paint thinner with citrus. Not as bad as anticipated. Tastes of strawberry banana caramel. Definitely harsh. 8/16/19

Caramel flavor with a slight fruitiness. High alcohol content but moderate flavor.

Decent for the cost, but not remarkable overall.
