Store Pick 112.74 Proof 9 year Aroma: Deep, heavy notes are prominent. It actually smells older than its stated age, which is fantastic. There's a lot of complexity, and as it evolves, new aromas emerge. It's very inviting each time I bring the glass to my nose, and the balance is wonderful. I detect notes of dark fruits, along with red apples and cherries. Old musty oak, black pepper, and a strong blast of vanilla and melted butter. Dark brown sugar and cinnamon are also present. Taste: I'm getting more of the classic bourbon characteristics than anything else. Caramel, vanilla, and some cinnamon spice. However, there's a peculiar, almost vegetal note that I can't quite identify. A slight nuttiness is also present. The viscosity is average, but it provides a comforting sensation on the finish. There's a very slight bitterness and a touch of dryness at the end that throws it slightly off balance for me. Overall: It's a mixed bag for me. The aroma is amazing, but the taste is just average, especially considering the age. I was expecting more oak influence since it was so prominent in the nose.
