Copper Works American Single Malt Whiskey Release 042

Nose: Incredibly rich caramel, butterscotch, and apple, with dried leaves. In fact, this genuinely smells like a delightful autumn afternoon, complete with fresh-cut vegetables, damp earth, freshly mown grass, pineapple, coconut, floral notes, sugar-coated toasted nuts, and freshly sawn lumber with a hint of sawdust. It continues to evolve. This is one of those endless profiles. Palate: Butterscotch, sweet earth, and dried heather (peat). It has the character of a salted caramel frappuccino, with malted grain notes reminiscent of a sweet porter beer, subtle hints of tobacco and cigar smoke, and a touch of milk chocolate. It's not as profound as the nose, but what's present is very pleasing. Finish: Butterscotch for days, earth, smoke, mint, rye grain, dark chocolate (with a slight bitterness), toasted oak, and smoked peanut butter (which sounds amazing – I hope someone produces this). There's also char, mineral water, a copper penny, and very faint hints of cinnamon and other baking spices. This is simply wonderful. Absolutely delicious. It stands alone; it's not a Scotch-style single malt, nor does it resemble other American single malts I've tried. It's unique. The peat influence is very subtle but noticeable, enough to make me curious about trying the exact same mash bill without the peat to discern the difference, should such a bottle exist (I'm unaware). In short: this is a perfectly crafted single malt that is incredibly good and suggests that the future of whiskey lies, at least in part, with American single malts. I'm quite enthusiastic about that prospect. Seriously, visit the Copperworks website immediately and place an order. I've enjoyed all three bottles I've purchased and anticipate ordering more.
