Rolando Estrada 4.0

Immediately, the aroma is very floral and fruity, presenting as sweet. However, there's an intriguing combination of smoke, leather, and spice, almost suggesting it's peated. An astringent oak follows, which you might say is counterbalanced by vanilla. This is a really interesting and somewhat peculiar rye, clearly influenced by the used bourbon barrels while imparting a distinct warmth. As it airs out, it quickly softens, allowing for a deeper exploration of those creamy undertones, but it's quite a puzzle. The taste is dry and intense, saturating the mouth with robust rice spice, scorched oak, smoke, and a touch of astringency. It's incredibly powerful, yet you also detect some smoother notes that will surely become more evident with more sips. It becomes delightfully smooth and spicy, offering both creaminess and heat. This is a truly excellent rye if you're ready for the challenge. The finish is lengthy and spicy, not precisely something you'd want to linger over, as the persistent flavors give you much to contemplate. I'm especially going to miss this one; I acquired it in 2021 around the time of the events surrounding the January 6th riots and the presidential inauguration that year. I never imagined I'd finish this bottle, but I suppose now is the appropriate moment. I feel a strong sense of nostalgia for it and have always appreciated the challenge it presents with each sip.
