Conniption Kinship

Okay. To be direct, I attempted to return this because it's simply not good. However, as it had been opened, a return was not possible, so perhaps I'll continue to review it. For clarity, I do enjoy gin in various forms: on ice, neat, as a martini, or even in a G&T. So, it's not as though I'm unfamiliar with gin or surprised by it. Tonight, as a G&T... A faint fishy scent accompanies each sip. I detect lime and tonic, with a persistent fishy, beach-like flavor. Even the tonic and lime cannot salvage this one.

I was delighted to sample The Durham Distillery's "Kinship" Butterfly Pea Flower Gin! Having visited numerous distilleries over the years, I found their innovative methods and growth in Durham to be particularly fascinating. The gin's vibrant hue and floral scent are absolutely exquisite. A genuine treasure (or perhaps "Amethyst"). Five stars! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

The other Conniption gins were great, but this one is a bit distinct. While they clearly aimed for a complex flavor, it all comes across as somewhat messy. The purple color suits other gins, but on this one, it reminds me of drinking cleaning fluid for ovens. I gave it 1.5 stars because it turns pink when citrus is added.

Beautiful deep citrus notes, combined with a harmonious blend of florals, as one would expect from a brand closely associated with the Gin Guild.

When mixed in a gin Caesar. Believe me, I'm doing this so you don't have to. Still unpleasant. While the gin does seem to meld towards the Worcestershire sauce flavor, it still stands out as awful. This gin is called kinship, but I believe if you served this Caesar to a Canadian, it could lead to international conflict.

Wow! This is more than just a "purple colored" gin! Exploring the range of cocktails created with this spirit alongside a mixologist was an enjoyable experience. Alternatively, serving it chilled on its own results in a remarkably smooth palate. I can certainly understand why this gin is an award winner.
