Comte de Lauvia Fine Armagnac

Quite thick and heavily perfumed, with a very fresh aroma full of citrus and ripe berries. Some tangerines are present, along with chocolate-filled citrus and a surprisingly pleasant and refreshing spirited quality. The taste is wonderfully intense, full-bodied, sweet, and rich for a 4-year-old spirit. Lots of raisins, both dark and milk chocolate, tender and freshly baked croissants, air-dried grapes (similar to Amarone), brown sugar, pipe tobacco, and sweet black cherry. The finish is long and substantial with various pleasant sweet and spicy notes like cloves and nutmeg, plus a hint of mint. This Fine Armagnac is truly doing well, and drinking it could be compared to savoring a rich, warm dessert in a cozy, atmospheric cafe during the rain. There are many calming, tobacco notes that complete this "wine-like" profile. Well, it's truly fortunate to encounter such a young yet rich and intense example, and this makes me one step closer to becoming an armagnac enthusiast. Or, at the very least, to trying the next one in their line.

Very light, smooth, and sweet with initial fruity notes, plus vanilla, toffee, and a hint of that French barrel. I typically drink whiskey, and this armagnac reminds me of some classic Irish and Speyside drams. The palate develops gradually, revealing light notes of fresh grapes, dry raisins, chocolate, and caramel. The finish is sweet but brief. It's the kind of drink you want to keep enjoying rather than dissecting, unlike a heavier cognac – and that's perfectly fine! This armagnac lacks complexity, but it's simply very easy and enjoyable to drink. It's mellow yet still memorable. Another pleasant aspect is that it contains no added sugar, coloring, or chill filtration – something you can't often say about cognacs in this price range! However, at this price point, I'd prefer a more complex whiskey.

A refined spirit from Comte de Lauvia's in Armagnac, France, composed of youthful distillates crafted with Ugni Blanc, Baco Blanc & Folle Blanche grapes. Initially aged in new local oak barrels, it was later transferred to older casks for maturation over approximately 4-7 years. It presents an aromatic beginning with hints of tree fruits and cooked fruits, alongside herbs and spices. Its rich development culminated in a well-rounded conclusion of moderate duration, featuring notes of oak and vanilla. August 2017
