Gail Irby 4.5

A fantastic whisky shop in Belgium, "The Nectar," offers exceptional and exclusive bottlings. One of their purveyors is the renowned Compass Box, which has created two special editions for them. This particular expression marks their 15th anniversary of selling premium spirits. Primarily composed of Laphroaig for a smoky character and bottled at 49% ABV, this whisky promises a high-quality experience. The aroma presents buttery popcorn, new tennis balls, seaweed, and Cookies & Cream, followed by butterscotch, spice, banana cake, caramel, and Compass Box's signature creaminess. After an initial taste, it evolves into iodine, swamp, and rainforest notes – truly remarkable. On the palate, it's an outstanding whisky with creamy marshmallows, characteristic Laphroaig peat, and hay. With further sips, a fruity profile emerges with grapefruit and salinity, complemented by an oily texture. The finish is the highlight of this masterpiece, featuring smoke, tennis balls, medicinal peat, and salt – absolutely incredible. In summary, this is one of the finest blends the company has ever produced, perfectly marrying sweetness and peat. It's a full-bodied, expertly crafted, potent dram, earning an honest 94 out of 100. If you have the opportunity to acquire it, do not hesitate. Cheers!
