About this bottle

Six distinct malt whiskies from Glen Elgin Distillery constitute Compass Box Myths & Legends II. With the exception of one, all were aged for 16-22 years in recharred American oak hogsheads, while the remaining whisky spent 23 years in refill sherry casks. Global availability is limited to 4,446 bottles. This bottling represents one of three Myths & Legends releases from the brand.

I thoroughly enjoyed this bottle from the Myths and Legend series. The concept behind this bottling was to demonstrate that blending single malts from a single distillery impacts the final flavor, not the region. I believe they succeeded in this objective. The nose begins with black tea (perhaps Assam leaves) and dried stone fruits. The palate is surprisingly light and somewhat creamy. It's not nearly as sweet as the initial offering. Tropical fruits are very prominent, with a hint of baking spices. The finish has a decent length, with minimal to no burn. Following the first bottle in the series, I was highly impressed with this one. The silky smooth taste was a pleasant surprise, and while it might not possess the complexity of the third installment, it remains very good. Is it worth the cost? Perhaps not, but one could certainly choose worse options.

The second bottle in this series is also a single malt, from a distillery I haven't experienced before. This Glen Elgin offers a nose of fresh green apples and eucalyptus, and tastes of Fruit Gums, black tea, and a dry white wine. It's distinct, intriguing, and enjoyable, though not quite as impressive as the first bottle.

This has been open for about six months. It's a beautiful bottle and has been displayed prominently. I truly enjoy it. The aroma is fantastic and I detect sweet apple as soon as I uncork it. Tropical fruit dominates and carries through to the palate. A great initial sweet tropical fruit and even banana flavor, followed by a long, pleasant, spicy finish.

Alijah Palma 4.0

A strong sherry aroma, immediate vanilla flavor, and a pleasant cinnamon warmth during the drink, with an easy finish.

Sydney Pierre 4.8

Apple pie and toffee. A very intricate and engaging flavor profile.
