Buffalo Trace's Colonel E.H. Taylor line includes this bottling from 93 casks impacted by a tornado in April 2006. The tornado damaged Warehouses B and C; Warehouse C held 24,000 barrels, many of which were exposed to the humid Kentucky environment during repairs. Buffalo Trace chose to bottle these barrels separately due to accelerated oaking from the heat, which claimed an average of 64% of each barrel and imparted a distinct flavor. The selected casks had aged between 9 years and 8 months, and 11 years and 11 months, and were bottled-in-bond at 50% ABV.

Clearly a quality spirit, but it's significantly overhyped and overpriced. Overwhelmed by oak and tannins. Lacks complexity. After this dram, I enjoyed a Stagg Jr batch 12 and an EHT single barrel considerably more.

Excellent, spicy blend. A genuine treat to enjoy a piece of history like this.

Enters the palate at the top, then the nose. Little sensation in the back of the throat.
Notes of caramel, toasted marshmallow, vanilla, and leather.
