E.H. Taylor, Jr. Bourbon honors a former owner of Buffalo Trace distillery, E.H. Taylor, Jr. This limited edition features barrel staves from the Independent Stave Company that underwent a 13-month outdoor drying period, nearly double the typical duration. The bottled-in-bond bourbon was aged for 17 years within "Warehouse C," a brick and limestone structure built in 1881 that remains part of the Buffalo Trace property.

The color of this one is immediately striking – a very deep reddish-copper. The aroma is equally impressive, with abundant sweet oak (the sweetness is key), vanilla, and a hint of fruitiness. The taste is rich with sweet, creamy vanilla. I detect a very subtle fruitiness, reminiscent of orange peel. Overall, this was highly enjoyable. I'm pleased I secured one for current enjoyment and another for later.
Likely deserving of 3.5 stars. It's acceptable, not exceptional. I purchased it a couple of years back and kept it sealed until recently. After consuming half the bottle, I find it to be an average bourbon, nothing more. I've certainly encountered worse, but I've also had significantly better, many at a similar or lower price point. Based on this, the only Colonel I'll likely revisit is Sanders.
This was genuinely my top bourbon choice from 2014. If you get the opportunity to try it anywhere, seize it. I was fortunate to obtain a bottle; I can honestly say I've never encountered such a pronounced strawberry note paired with a delicate spice to complement the sweet aroma. The finish is as smooth as any of the 60 bottles I own. An immediate favorite.
An intense aroma of vanilla toffee and cherry with a subtle maple syrup undertone. A deeply satisfying, rich, fruity, and thick mouthfeel featuring apricot, banana, and chocolate-covered orange slices. A brief, smooth finish with oak and a hint of pepper and rye, harmonized by some brown sugar sweetness.
Happy to have discovered this while celebrating our seventh anniversary! It has all the complementary qualities that you and I adore in exceptional bourbon: corn essence, vanilla sweetness, charred oak, a gentle warmth, and so on. I've yet to encounter an E.H. Taylor bottle that disappoints!
I detect honey and peaches on the nose. The wood aromas are very pleasant. It's sharp on the tongue with sweet cola flavors. This expression is distinctive, featuring oak and cherry cola. It stands out positively. I could identify this in a blind tasting. Exceptionally well-crafted. A shame these are so rare. 6/13/17
