Discovered in a musty basement after forty years of storage, this older iteration of Chivas Regal 12 was bottled for the British Armed Forces in the 1970s. What hidden characteristics does it possess? The aroma, initially reserved, unveils notes of tinned pineapple, shortbread, and woody spices. The taste is both silky and strong, presenting flavors of kiwi, cumin, and peppery licorice. The quality of the casks is evident, unlike the lesser refill casks common in most blends today. A creamy vanilla, toasted nut, and subtle oak character fade into a semi-dry, enduring finish. A fantastic throwback!

Discovered a very old bottle at my grandparents' house. What a piece of history! I didn't realize it was from the 70s. The bottle's design is fantastic and intricate. A very interesting first sip—I can't determine if it's from improper storage or if this is its intended taste, but it has an incredibly strong bite right from the start, more so than most bourbons I've encountered. I would never guess this was a Scotch. Once the bitter heat subsides, it transforms into a wave of salt, caramel, and mushroom. Not my favorite whiskey, but as always, it's better to have tried it than to have not drunk it at all!
Very good, not too strong. I really enjoy the oily mouthfeel. It was somewhat difficult to determine the most prominent flavors; it felt very complex. I leaned towards caramel initially, with peat in the aftertaste. However, I also detect a strong herbal note, reminiscent of black tea. I really like this one.
It's easy to drink and smooth, but not particularly memorable or special.
Smells of oak, a full smooth body, starts earthy and spicy but finishes with complex vanilla notes.
It's smooth, but has a bit too much peat for my liking.
