About this bottle

Chareau Aloe Liqueur is produced using ingredients sourced from California, with an emphasis on organic components whenever feasible. Alongside aloe vera, the liqueur is flavored with cucumber, lemon peel, muskmelon, and spearmint, all infused into a grape-based eau de vie. Sugar and California spring water are also incorporated. The name is a portmanteau derived from Arthur Emile Charron and Florence Marie Favreau, the great-grandparents of the brand's founder, who were farmers in California.

According to the representative, grape spirit (I don't recall if it was wine or the initial distillate) is steeped separately with cucumber, lemon, mint, and melon before being redistilled to approximately 140 proof. It's then diluted with aloe juice and water. Keep in mind, this is from memory, so take it with a grain of salt. The rep stated 10% Brix, but my refractometer reads 18%, possibly due to other organic compounds. 3.30.22 Bottle Opened: Not specified (During a rep visit) Served: Undiluted, in a Flute Nose: A harmonious blend of cucumber and mint, with a distinct lemon peel note. Taste: Noticeably sweet, it requires chilling or a bit of club soda to be more enjoyable beyond a small serving. Cucumber and mint are prominent initially, followed by a clear melon finish. It imparts a very cool, revitalizing sensation. An excellent component for cocktails. I created a variation of the Naked and Famous, which I call the Naked and Sunburnt, using equal parts mezcal, lime, Ancho Reyes, and Aperol, garnished with Aloe. Substituting this liqueur for the Aperol yielded stellar and refreshing outcomes. I'm naming it Spread Eagle, after the pose one assumes on a hotel bed following excessive sun exposure. Dan Carlson's Spread Eagle: 1oz Lime Juice 1oz Mezcal 1oz Ancho Reyes Chile Liqueur 1oz Chareau Aloe Liqueur Garnish with Aloe or Lime Optional additions: A quarter ounce of simple syrup for added sweetness and body, and/or a dash of jalapeño tincture for increased heat.

A distinct taste, though it falls short of the "aloe" profile. It presents more as spearmint and cucumber, aligning with the listed components.

Ray Villanueva 4.5

Light and an ideal ingredient for cocktails.
