Cedar Ridge Wheat Whiskey

Wow! If you appreciate different styles of whiskey, you absolutely must try this. I've had wheat whiskey and wheated bourbons before, but they are nothing like this. It's very unique and good. From the first smell, and even more so in the mouth, it transports me back to my mother's kitchen, filled with the scent of bread dough rising near the stove, then being shaped into small balls for fresh hot dinner rolls covered in butter. All of that comforting feeling is in every taste and swallow of this delightful whiskey. This is genuinely a single MALTED wheat (not barley). That malting of the wheat must be the secret to this unique flavor. It's a smooth, distinctively tasty, and easy-drinking whiskey. You might not love it, but you owe it to yourself to try it. This distillery appears to be a rising star, having won multiple awards and being named Distillery of The Year in 2017. According to their website, the whiskey is available in 17 states, primarily in the Midwest, deep South, Northeast, and West Coast based on their map. I hope you have good luck finding it.

I'm starting to appreciate this whiskey. My purchase followed my complete enjoyment of the Cedar Ridge Bourbon, specifically the port barrel finish, which is excellent. This offering is different. It's quite light at only 40% abv, yet it's easy to drink. It has a flavor profile reminiscent of a sweet, grassy field in summer, complemented by a hint of vanilla. There's no harshness at the finish. While I wouldn't choose it over bourbon, it's a pleasant and smooth option for certain occasions.

Batch 28 I let it sit in a glencairn for 10 to 20 minutes before tasting. Appearance: golden yellow brown Smell: faint sugars, sweetness like sugared breakfast cereal; notes of flowers and herbs Served neat: primarily herbal and floral flavors; evaporates quickly from the tongue, leaving a cool sensation like mint/menthol; the finish is brief, leaving a light, lasting warmth Served on the rocks: the sweetness becomes more prominent; the herbal/floral notes become less noticeable

I had this at a bar in Des Moines. I'd never heard of it and was pleasantly surprised. My whiskey-loving dinner companions and I enjoyed it greatly. Yes, it's sweet, but it also has fruit notes, mainly pear, alongside toast and honey flavors. It wasn't as one-dimensional as I anticipated. I'm considering adding it to my collection.

Very gentle and refined. Barely any sting or lingering flavor. The aroma brings a touch of malted sweetness and flower hints.

I detect notes of hay and dusty wheat, like it came off a farm. Nothing remarkable, but it serves its purpose.
