Castle & Key Small Batch 2023 (Batch 4) 101 Proof 73% Corn/10% Rye/17% Barley Acquired at Total Wine & More Indianapolis IN *AROMA: Dark and fairly complex. Notes of dark fruits, custard, barrel wood, varnish, orange peel, cinnamon, and leather. Perhaps just a trace of graininess in the background. *NEAT: Solid. Flavors of orange peel, oak tannins, vanilla, cinnamon stick, and mint. A touch of black pepper spice. A decent Kentucky hug with oak and mint coating and layering the palate. *SPLASH: Vanilla and mint become prominent, but a raw grain note emerges that I dislike. *CONCLUSION: I am pleased with this purchase. It has good foundational qualities, and I anticipate future releases will be even better.
