Captive Spirits in Seattle, Washington, offers Big Gin Bourbon Barreled, a variation of their flagship London dry-style gin. Founded by Ben Capdevielle and Holly Robinson, this gin features a 100% corn base spirit. The botanical blend includes coriander, bitter orange peel, grains of paradise, angelica, cassia, cardamom, orris, and Tasmanian pepper berry, in addition to juniper. The spirit is then aged for six months in former Kentucky bourbon barrels and bottled at 47% ABV.

This was my favorite spirit this year. I confess I generally don't care for gins. However, this one presented many intriguing flavors, and I found it quite enjoyable!
Juniper and coriander are sweetened by barrel aging, creating a smooth, thick texture on the palate. This is great for cocktails where you want to add complexity to the gin.
