A significant tasting session today, as it's my day off. Aroma - immediately apparent is Islay peat, light smoke but very clean. Underneath, vanilla and lactose provide sweetness. Quite nice but not exceptional. After about 10 minutes in the glass, some wine sweetness begins to emerge. The overall impression is a heavily sweet malty spirit with a pleasant smoky undertone. This is right up my alley. Taste - Oh, that Amoroso cask is INTENSE here. I've never had amoroso, so I'm unfamiliar with it, but I'm detecting a lot of red wine and sugary sweetness. There's a substantial amount of peat on the finish, with a nice long lingering finish where I detect some peat bitterness. A wonderful pour, and I only wish I had more. My overall score for this is a solid 3.25. Definitely worth purchasing if you can find it at a reasonable price.
