Cambus 1994 24 Year Cask Strength Collection (Signatory)

Sampled from bottle number 330 of 447, originating from cask #55891. Nose: It presents fruity and floral notes with an ethanol aroma. There are grassy undertones, a subtle hint of aniseed, and a scent resembling hot metal or charcoal (a characteristic I sometimes detect in single grain whisky). Palate: Begins lightly fruity, then develops into herbal/licorice flavors. You'll find cereal and woody tastes, with a slightly astringent and numbing sensation. The texture is pleasant and leans towards creamy. Finish: It's long and leaves a lingering warmth (adding water is advised). Hints of fennel and aniseed are present. This was produced on July 24th, 1991, and bottled on November 4th, 2015. It matured in a used PX sherry butt, though I wouldn't have guessed it from its color, aroma, or taste. The manufacturing quality is high, with no off-notes or overpowering scents. Overall, it has a grassy/herbal profile but seems to lack substance. Despite not being overly high in proof, the alcohol feels poorly integrated. You're unlikely to find this on shelves anymore, and it's not worth seeking out on the secondary market. Several expressions of Cambus from 1991, released by different independent bottlers, exist.
