Cameronbridge 'Harmony' 28 Year Old 1991 - Old Particular Spiritualist Series (Douglas Laing)

Note: This was intended as a blind tasting for this year's TRGWC, but due to a minor mishap, I saw the label and now know the spirit. Regardless, let's proceed. Nose: Maple and baking spices combine with warm, rich oak that isn't overpowering. Notes of prunes, dates, figs, and raisins are present, along with a metallic vanilla and a noticeable but not dominant ethanol presence. Candied lemon peel is also detected. Without knowing its identity, I would have guessed it was an unusual Canadian or American creation. The aroma is relatively straightforward and lacks significant complexity. Palate: This suggests a sherry cask influence, possibly with a musty, slightly sulphurous note, though confirmation for this specific release is unavailable. Flavors of banana chips and vanilla ice cream dusted with cocoa powder emerge (a surprisingly good combination I've tried). The dark fruit notes from the nose reappear. The cask influence is far more pronounced on the palate. It possesses enough depth and richness to be interesting without being overly demanding. The mouthfeel is medium-heavy, with ample oils. Finish: A wave of red fruits, oak, and a sensation like a pencil eraser after realizing an error on a test. Black pepper and baking spices are present, fading slowly with a metallic vanilla. The finish is long. Other notes: Despite my disappointment at accidentally revealing the label and compromising the blind tasting, I can confidently say I would have guessed nothing accurately about it. A twenty-eight-year-old single grain is impressive. I'm very curious about the grain used, the distillation ABV, and the cask entry proof to understand the balance between grain and cask influence. It's an interesting, unique experience that warrants a glass. A full bottle might be excessive, though it could be useful for home blending projects. Cheers.

Good, technically this is the 30 year from the same 1991 batch but I didn't want to add a new entry. Smooth, with hints of berry, vanilla, and toasted nuts. The aftertaste lingers with a slight sharpness.
