Calumet Farms Bottled in Bond Straight Bourbon Whiskey

It's interesting that this bottle wasn't listed here yet. Well, I had to fix that... Color: Medium-Light Copper Nose: Maple; Caramel; Apple; Vanilla; Slight alcohol burn in the nostrils. Great nose! Palate: (Consumed with an ice cube) A mild chest warmth on the first sip. Sweet, slightly syrupy mouthfeel. Some nuttiness — which I really appreciate. Subsequent sips reveal some spice, along with oak tannins. "Spicy" and "nutty" are the main impressions from the first pour. Let's try another to see if it might change... (Consumed with a large ice ball) The most noticeable aspect is a more prominent "oak" character. The second pour is woodier. Any burn present in the first pour has vanished. I lost some of the "nutty" quality that was inherent to the initial tasting. As the ice ball melts, the oak really emerges. Finish: I'd describe this as a short finish with spicy oak taking center stage. Final Thoughts: I had been considering this bottle behind the glass case at my grocery store for a few months. But I just couldn't convince myself to buy it blindly for $110.00. Recently, they discounted it by 50% — so naturally, I bought it. I've mentioned before how I factor "price" into my Bourbon ratings. This definitely applies here. At $55.00, this is a solid drink, earning a solid 4.0 stars. If I had paid full price, I'd likely have given it 3.5. It reminds me of other bottles I've had over the years (though I couldn't name them to save my life). I would definitely purchase it again at this price point. But I'm glad I didn't pay $90 - or over $100, which is what I'm seeing is the current market price. If you find it for $50-$60, get it.
