NOSE: grassy rye, laced with “fruity” notes (mint??) some hints of earth tones. PALATE: sweetness intertwined with baking spices, toasted marshmallows, and subtle hints of leather… FINISH: The sweetness fades somewhat in the accents of leather & rye grasses consumes my mouthful. The finish is nice but fades to some dryness in the echoes of its rye mash bill. Come hardening back to me. OVERALL: this is a very good rye whiskey and is very enjoyable to me. Some rye whiskeys can leave me dry and “wanting”; but this Buzzard’s Roost Toasted Rye it’s me back for another sip (or more!)

About this bottle
This rye whiskey, a product of independent bottler & blender Buzzard's Roost, is sourced from MGP in Indiana. It undergoes aging for at least 3 years, followed by a finishing process in specially developed oak barrels that are toasted rather than charred, a deviation from most of the brand's usual methods. It is presented at 105 proof.

Its youth is apparent, but only slightly. The aroma is dominated by cinnamon toast grain and is soft on the palate, complemented by rich vanilla and light oak. It transitions to a mild cinnamon red hot flavor in the finish.
Very spicy with a lot of wood. It requires some time to start unfolding and revealing marshmallow characteristics. It can be a pleasant sipper, particularly on colder evenings.
Sweet, with marshmallow and toasted notes. Thoroughly enjoyed. A sweeter, milder rendition of Michter's Toasted Rye.
Hints of cinnamon.
